Halloween Film Festival 2013

Every October, my fiancé and I aim to watch a scary or a suitably Halloween-esque film every night of the month. We call it the Halloween Film Festival and we use the hashtag: #HFF followed by the subsequent year to encourage others to join in. We take turns picking the films and some nights we live tweet throughout the screenings. We also invite friends over, giving them the opportunity to choose the film or films for the night.

It's a fun way to build up to Halloween and always makes me appreciate the horror genre as we very rarely watch these films throughout the rest of the year. In our DVD and blu-ray collection, we have over 300 titles that relate to Halloween in some way, so we never get through all of them every year. This means that as well as re-watching our favourites on an annual basis we also try to watch ones we missed the previous year.

I had intended to write about it this year in more detail but have barely had the time. So I thought I'd bring it up now as a precursor for next year.

Here's what I watched this October in reverse order:

Murders In The Rue Morgue (1932)
The Invisible Man (1933)
Cronos (1993)
The Crow (1994)
Zombieland (2009)
The Fog (1980)
Hocus Pocus (1993)
The Orphanage (2007)
Scream (1996)
Tucker And Dale Vs Evil (2010)
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The Shining (1980)
Troll Hunter (2010)
The Omen (1976)
Damien: Omen II (1978)
The Prophecy (1995)
The Wolfman (2010)
Igor (2008)
The Thing (1982)
The Thing (2011)
Night Of The Living Dead (1990)
Bride Of Frankenstein (1935)

Phantoms (1998)
The Craft (1993)
Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)
Cabin In The Woods (2012)
Halloween (2007)
Frankenstein (1994)
Casper (1995)
The Ninth Gate (1999)
The Wicker Man (1973)
Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Awesome year, though I am rather sad we didn't get to watch Evil Dead (1981), The Exorcist (1973), Ravenous (1999), Psycho (1960),  The Birds (1963), Nosferatu (1922 and 1979 versions), The Mummy (1932) ands lots more!

Ah well, there's always next year!

Feel free to take part with us in 2014 or even host your own! It's very worthwhile and I've seen lots of films this year, I hadn't seen previously and also some bad ones. Don't be put off by remakes either, some are surprising. Oh, and horror comedies and kids films totally count! Mix it up a bit!
